The Misplaced Trust in a Managed Wilderness
We see ourselves as architects of our environment who are able to shape and mould it to our designs and ambitions. We have insulated ourselves from the baseline effects of global environmental change within our constructed habitats. However, nature can only be held at bay for so long. The cracks are already starting to widen as we try to save our home.

<img src="https://images.podos.io/0hvaposkfaennzbehj6tnomjlelwrqi2za5q0anmtu5r6mnl.jpg.jpg?w=1140&v=2" ground,

rectangles in the sky,

concrete poured in the shape of permanence.

<img becomes.

You dig — it sinks.

You burn — it warms.

You cut — it bleeds.

So reliable you could almost applaud it.

<img cue,

always landing the punchline,

leaving us holding our sides,

except it isn’t laughter,

it’s collapse.

<img intention,

a villain,

some kind of plot.

<img buzzer.

Turn the wheel, spin the car.

Simple, obvious, brutal.

<img going.

Through ruin, through wreckage,

through every warning sign

that says exit here.

<img virtue,

when more often

it’s proof of delusion.

<img easy to sell.

We nod along,

mistaking the trance for choice.

<img continuing

long past reason.

Toddlers refusing bedtime,

insisting the party isn’t over

as they wobble on swollen feet,

face sticky with cake.

<img show must go on.

But what if persistence

isn’t our virtue at all?

What if it’s our curse,

a momentum so unstoppable

we mistake it for destiny.

<img
