Badgered, battered the body seeks rest, between\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

petals tearing\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

at slippery surfaces. Membranes\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

sinuous and transparent cling\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

to the level of flower, an intense,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

narrow entryway of yellow light year\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

thinking.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

<\/p>

Here one sees brightly, colour<\/span><\/p>

is enhanced and beads of rain<\/span><\/p>

tremble on the lower lip of<\/span><\/p>

a blossom. The body hums a rhythm<\/span><\/p>

uncertain and deep,<\/span><\/p>

images open and shut<\/span><\/p>

fly-by-night.<\/span><\/p>

<\/p>

This would be a Japanese<\/span><\/p>

rain forest an Afghani<\/span><\/p>

takeaway a black as soot Brazilian<\/span><\/p>

night where carpets soar\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

on indigent winds. I want to darken<\/span><\/p>

my hands on that night, crush those<\/span><\/p>

rain flowers against my cheeks and lose<\/span><\/p>

myself on those winds, a box kite\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

as fragile as it is unafraid.<\/span><\/p>

Fly? I think not. I can\u2019t find that raw edge,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

everything comes at me smooth and clean\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

and I\u2019m the unseemly blotch, the errant queen.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

I am a witch woman, savage and shorn.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Conjured\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

out of my bones, she balances\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

wings cocked\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

at the edge of beyond.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Fear soars in on broomsticks.<\/span><\/p>

Beyond is that place where vision flickers, hearing becomes duplicitous, nothing or nobody seems to have the same face \u2013 a row of dolls on a shelf, forgotten, ignored, take on another aspect, as if infused with life from some unknown source.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Beyond is the mind knowing what it knows, beyond\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

is the knowing exceeding, a falling down fence in the moonlight.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

A white dress billows as her ship sets sail, her braids snap like jump ropes,<\/span><\/p>

leaving behind a scratch on the surface of things.<\/span><\/p>

Beyond is the split-second crevice\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

before knowing, where fragility lies<\/span><\/p>

autonomous\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

and given. A whirlpool hums at a distant frequency,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

foreign but also oddly familiar, running to greet the vision\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

of a stranger that turns out, surprise, to be my own true face,<\/span><\/p>

or the body\u2019s inbred contusions\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

from all the remotely dreaming, visible like fingerprints on the windowpane.<\/span><\/p>

Keep scavenging and making it up as along one goes, borrowing\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

old clothes and hats from the neighbors and stomping in big shoes\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

into the dingy gloom-gloam. The light fades. Vision\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

falters. I can move and the creatures find me there,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

four-of-a-kind, almost identities coalesce in and out of sight.<\/span><\/p>
